Overview of Paradise Fish
Paradise Fish, also known as Paradise Gourami, belongs to the family Osphronemidae, with origins tracing back to southeast Asia. Being vividly colored and carrying distinctive dot patterns on the body, these fish are a sight to behold. Paradise Fish come in three species, each having different tail shapes and varying color patterns. They enjoy the dominant position in a community tank, taking a keen interest in exploring their surroundings, but the male counterparts are territorial tending towards aggressive behavior towards each other.

Paradise Fish are adaptable to different water conditions, which enables them to live in varying habitat types- right from shallow waters to outdoor ponds. A typical tank set for Paradise Fish would entail a spacious environment which is a minimum tank size of 15 to 20 inches for a single male fish and 80 cm x 30 cm for a pair. Along with a Marineland Penguin 350 filter and a 150-watt heater maintaining a steady temperature around 79°F. These fish require a gap of warm air between the water's surface and any cover slides to be able to gulp air due to their labyrinth organs.
Diet and Feeding
Being omnivores, Paradise Fish require a well-balanced diet incorporating algae-based flake foods, high-quality dried products along with live foods like white worms, daphnia, artemia, and brine shrimp. Meaty foods high in protein also help them in maintaining better coloration.
Breeding of Paradise Fish
Breeding paradise fish is not as challenging as one might think. As bubble nest builders, the male paradise fish are known for their aggressive behavior towards the females during breeding.
